Moviemaking

New Movie: A Quarantine Project

I’m a film school dropout and fifteen years ago I started Video in the Classroom.com to share best practices and movies from my own classroom which I used to increase reading fluency and comprehension. As an elementary principal I encourage moviemaking through our one to one program and schoolwide project based learning. It’s one of the reasons that we have been successful particularly with English Learners who develop more language in creative classrooms than they do in traditional classrooms because of the opportunity for communication that is afforded in a creative classroom.

However, I update this long dormant blog more often than I create movies outside of the classroom. Being shut-in and working from home during the current global pandemic has been stressful and I’ve had to forgive myself for not feeling more productive.

Nevertheless, I have two goals for this experience:

  • 1. Surviving
  • 2. Creating something to document this experience.

So far, I’ve been successful on both fronts. This is the short movie I created as a memory of this time. I hope you enjoy.
