My friend, Nick Pernisco of Understand Media presents this film which makes the case for teaching students how to responsibly view media rather than banning their access to that media. It’s similar to my case for teaching student to safely use Google rather than banning Google.

One can also change the search preferences in Google to strict preferences. While not a foolproof, any thing helps. Schoolchildren should be using databases anyway, SIRs is an excellent one.
Thanks, Mathew. More episodes are coming soon.
Mathew,
Thanks so much for sharing Nick’s video. I’m going to show this to my granddaughter when she comes to stay next week and get her reaction to it.
Great media literacy film. We have to continually ask students to critically evaluate their info sources. Here’s a recently rediscovered relic from my early days as a teacher. High School “Media Studies” circa 1983.
Ignore my bad acting! http://bit.ly/yV2w8
