It’s almost the first day of school again for many teachers teaching at year round schools. (That would have been me two years but we’re now traditional).

Although I start the Open Court program on day one, I make sure to go slowly and do the things you need to do to establish your classroom, learn everyone’s names, explain the rules, and give the students a tour of the room.

For other first day of school activities, tons of activities for the first day of school submitted by teachers as well as literature recommendations have been posted.

One thing I don’t do is begin to set up Independent Work Time until the second week of school.
